The expression flying like hotcakes is literal at Hotcakes Bakes. This West LA bakery has quickly become one of the rising stars in a battle of the bakeries. Owner Elfie Weiss came to Los Angeles fr
om Paris to peruse the typical LA dream of acting and singing. But in 2005 she decided to pursue another passion and opened up Hotcakes Bakes and created quintessential European desserts. Elfie has won numerous awards including Food Network’s 2009 Cupcake Wars Challenge but to taste her creations is to really fall in love.

It is almost impossible to choose which sweet to start with. There are the obvious cupcakes that melt in your mouth and release more flavor with each bite. One of Weiss’s signature flavors is red velvet with a cream cheese icing that is as light as a cloud. Other unique flavors include her award winning exotic Tres Leches Spicy Mango, which is like boarding the Darjeeling Limited and taking a vacation with your taste buds. As amazing as this one of a kind treat is, don’t discount the traditional vanilla with chocolate, which is anything but boring. This ole standby has the perfect ratio of icing to cake and takes you back to your childhood of stuffing your face full of birthday cake.

If cupcakes aren’t your bag, Hotcakes Bakes has other options for you to nosh on instead. They have an array of European pastries like French Macaroons and Cream Puffs. And you can’t overlook their cakes, which can be created to order for weddings or other occasions in various sizes whatever size your party may be.

Whether you’re throwing a blowout birthday bash or just having a party of one on a Sunday night, Hotcakes Bakes will have you asking for seconds.
