Sonya Roosendaal will make you sore - in a good way of course! Sonya, a young, bubbly personal trainer based in West LA with a burgeoning business and a variety of clients will put you through a rigor
ous workout - that flies by at a fast and fun-filled pace.

Growing up as an athletic child in Seattle, physical activity and training is not merely a job but an important lifestyle component. This passion is evidenced in first meeting her and infuses her training style. In high school when she was side-lined by a knee injury, Sonya discovered her passion for training and went on to pursue a four year program in Exercise Science at the University of Washington and Seattle Pacific University.

Sonya's biggest fitness tip is "variety" - as in incorporating a great deal of different exercises into an hour of training. This is accomplished by using "circuits" - essentially a series of activities repeated twice or even three times that work everything from biceps, triceps to hamstring and glutes. Within these circuits, Sonya not only uses traditional fitness props like weights and weightlifting machines, but she also loves to incorporate some newer vehicles such as the Mini-Band - which when worn around the ankles makes lateral side steps and squats especially challenging and effective. Sonya is also a fan of the BOSU ball - most notably for abdominal work - which burns immediately! Workouts with Sonya center around this "circuit" method with short bursts of five to ten minute cardio sessions in order to keep your heart rate up.

It doesn’t stop at work outs with Sonya. She will work with clients on their goals and nutrion. When starting with a new client, Sonya has them keep a three day food journal, to be able to assess nutritional habits, portion sizes, etc. and then review with them how to maintain a balanced and healthy daily routine. In addition, she will give you recipes, meal plans, snack ideas, and a “daily food journal” where you can log goals, exercise, nutrition, sleep, mood, just about anything.

Another huge bonus to working out with Sonya is her flexibility - if you have a home gym, she is more than happy to go there, otherwise she also has a gym in her own building that she trains from consistently. She is located in Santa Monica, so if you're a west sider that's a great option - especially since Sonya loves to incorporate outdoor exercises along with her indoor gym training. Alternatively, Sonya also trains out of Pro Gym in Brentwood which is located at the intersection of San Vicente and Montana Avenues. It is primarily a training gym, so membership is not necessary.

One session with Sonya will not only change your day - but your fitness attitude - and will absolutely have you coming back for more!
